New Year, New Look—Spring 2014 Beauty Trends that Rule the Season
It’s a brand new year… (Woo-hoo!!)… besides setting up (and keeping up with) the New Year resolutions, it also calls for some brand new looks for the fresh start. For me, changing up a little and freshen up my look always help me to get into the mood for a brand new beginning. Especially in January, there’t really not much going on in New York besides super cold weather and bitter wind chill, why not use this opportunity to update my makeup and get myself all pumped up again!? Here are some exciting trend directions for this spring:
1). The Subdued Nail:
Nail art has reached to the absolute peak in 2013, our nail is becoming fatigue, our mind is getting fatigue with the nail-art craze too! It’s time to drop graphic designs for more simple sophistication. Nail designs take on a more back-to-basic approach this season – expect darker, more intense hues, plus plenty of nudes and sheers. Thinks color-blocked French manicures or nude with half moons like what was seen at Nina Ricci, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Milly and Lela Rose Spring runways. To create the look, apply nail art on sheer nail polish, it’s so simple, clean and super chic.
2). Orange is the new pink:
Even though Pantone just announced that radiant orchid is the color of the year, it seemed like orange was the lipstick shade of the season! From Nanette Lepore, Donna Karan, Prabal Gurung to Rag & Bone and DKNY, designers are opting for various hues in the orange color family. If you’re not ready to jump on this neon orange wagon, try mixing the orange lipstick with your favorite red, and blot for a slightly matte finish after application, it will tone down the neon-ness a little bit and it’s somehow more approachable. If you dare to go for the full effect, pair the orange lips with soft clothes with muted colors, it will makes the lips pop gives a vibrant visual attention.
3). Ethereal White Eyeshadow and Liner
White eye makeup trend was all over the place for Spring 2014: Kenzo, Tibi, Alice + Olivia, and Altuzarra all showed some love for this winter white eye color. Who would ever guessed, a wash of iridescent whites and pinks on the lids gives a dewy freshness to the winter makeup. Or go for a bolder look and fill out the entire crease with white eyeliner and eye shadow. Opt for a unadulterated white, it’ll make your eyes look wider, mascara blacker, lipstick bolder, and the rest of the face a lot more luminous.
4). Golden Skin (and Eyes)
If it isn’t already, let bronzer become your best friend for spring. Thanks to Michael Kors, House of Holland and Donna Karan, the seventies-style glowing skin is coming back as a brand new trend again. I always love a healthy golden glow on the skin no matter if it’s trending or not. Mix a tinted moisturizer with a little liquid illuminator to prep the skin before makeup, or apply a natural bronzer to the cheeks, bridge of nose and forehead with a wet sponge to achieve the look. If you want to take it to the next level, try a Studio 54 style gilded eye like what was showed onn Jason Wu’s runway… Or even better, a golden brows at the Christian Dior show.
Sometimes all it takes is one subtle change to bring your look up to date from last season. All these new trends are all pretty easy to achieve with little tweaks in color products, and the results are surprisingly noticeable and refreshing. Give it a try today (maybe one at a time, not all of them at once)… let me know how you like these spring trends!
